With just less than 9 million likes, Lionel Messi’s World Cup-winning photos have just over 47 million likes. It beats out Cristiano Ronaldo’s post where he was seen playing chess with Lionel Messi.

It just needs a few thousand more likes to reach the 42 million mark. Ronaldo also features on the list two more times. His announcement of Georgina Rodriguez‘s pregnancy in October 2021 also has over 32 million likes. In FIFA World Cup 2022, Ronaldo was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Morocco. His post afterward also holds just short of 31 million likes.

Ronaldo, however, still holds the record for being the most-followed celebrity on the platform. He has 519 million followers on Instagram, which is more than 119 million of what Leo Messi has. The 35-year-old has 400 million followers on Instagram. Combined, they have almost a billion followers on the platform. It just goes to show how popular they are regardless of where they play.
