The Manchester United takeover battle has been going on for months now and the club still hasn’t reached a consensus. The Glazers, who own Manchester United, had announced their decision to sell the club months ago. The two potential future owners of the club are – Sir Jim Ratcliffe, owner of the INEOS group, and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Glazers had agreed to sell the club to Sheikh Jassim. The Qatari Sheikh had submitted a $6.3 billion bid, thus outbidding Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, the Sheikh had only put one condition, which was gaining complete ownership of the club. However, Sir Ratcliffe is willing to acquire a majority stake in the club while still allowing the Glazers partial ownership.

While almost eight months have passed since the takeover battle began, the Glazers have yet to make a decision. However, Sheikh Jassim isn’t happy with the Glazers’ lack of urgency. The attitude of the club owners has reportedly frustrated Sheikh Jassim, as he thinks that they aren’t serious about selling the club. However, with the new season set to start soon, the club starters are becoming anxious about the future of Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney wants the Glazers to bid farewell to Manchester United’s ownership
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has expressed his desire to see the club under new management. Speaking to The Athletic, Rooney stated that he feels it is high time the Glazers leave the club. He said, “They have been very successful. But it has probably got to a place where the fans really want a change. They want to maybe go in a different direction.“
“It needs that excitement back, not just for the first team, but to develop the academy and behind the scenes. I’m sure they will get the credit they deserve for the job they have done, but also they’re going to get the negativity from fans who never seem to acknowledge what they’ve done for the club.” Moreover, the current DC United coach also commented on the club’s decision to recent change its captain.

English defender Harry Maguire, who has been captaining the club since 2020, was recently stripped of his role. Talking about the decision, Rooney said, “To have the armband taken off you, how does he move forward with the club? That shows the manager really doesn’t believe in him.” According to Rooney, the 30-year-old defender should leave United and try to pursue his career elsewhere.
