Liverpool had agreed on a record-breaking deal worth $139 Million for the signing of Moises Caicedo. The demand for the Ecuadorian midfielder in the transfer market was huge. Almost every top soccer club wanted to get his signatures, but now the transfer saga has taken a huge turn.

After agreeing on a deal with Liverpool, Moises Caicedo has changed his mind. The player was on Chelsea’s radar for more than six months and even had agreed on personal terms. Liverpool came in late in the race and looked like they pulled the rabbit out of the hat, but the rabbit was wearing the Chelsea blue.
What happened between Chelsea and Moises Caicedo?
Under the new ownership of Todd Boelhy, Chelsea has had a disastrous start. The club fired Champions League-winning coach Thomas Tuchel for Graham Potter. A few months later they sacked him as well. Potter was replaced by club legend Frank Lampard as the interim coach at the end of the season. Lampard was at the helm on a temporary basis, and finally, the club announced that Mauricio Pochettino would lead the club.
Pochettino had to clear out the squad and sign players who could play in his system. Moises Caicedo was on the list, but the club had to clear out their roster to sign the player.

Liverpool on the other hand was trying to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton, but Chelsea also tried to sign the player. The Merseyside club responded by bidding and agreeing on a fee for Moises Caicedo, and he was on his way to join them on a $139 Million dollar deal.
Now according to the latest reports, the player has made a U-turn. Caicedo seems to be inclining toward joining Chelsea again, and the Blues are making a $150 Million dollar bid. This has been one of the most interesting transfer sagas of the summer.
Why do top clubs want Moises Caicedo?
The 21-year-old midfielder was a key part of Brighton’s side that qualified for the Europa League. The manager Roberto De Zerbi took Brighton to their best-ever finish in the Premier League and was hoping to keep hold of Caicedo.
Caicedo is a player who thrives with his work rate off the ball and is an excellent player when it comes to ball recoveries. He reads the game very well, cutting off opposition passes, and efficient ball distribution is his forte, often kickstarting offensive moves. The style of Mauricio Pochettino suits him, and he could be a great partner for Enzo Fernandez.
Not denying the fact that he could suit Jurgen Klopp’s counter-pressing system as well, but looks like he will choose the London Blue over the Merseyside Red. The transfer saga is a perfect story for a neutral while very concerning for the fans whose team fails to land Caicedo. Where do you think Moises Caicedo will end up before the transfer window ends?
