The transfer episode full of twists and popcorn-worthy moments is finally over. Chelsea have agreed a British record-breaking transfer fee for Moises Caicedo, and the midfielder is heading to London.
A long transfer saga that started in May when Caicedo agreed personal terms with Chelsea, swung when Liverpool came bidding. Last week, the Merseyside club even reportedly agreed to a $140 million deal with Brighton. They even made an official communication regarding the deal.
110M is a big price for #Caicedo but Liverpool had to pay big as clubs knew they were desperate.
But signing two top young players for 145M & selling two of your older players for 52M is great business!

The move fell through when Caicedo had second thoughts and informed Liverpool that he intended to join Chelsea. Caicedo was always on the priority list for Chelsea, but due to unknown reasons, the transfer was getting delayed. Now, the Blues have finally agreed to pay a British record fee of $145 million for the Ecuadorian midfielder.

Chelsea will pay $126 million upfront while the rest $19 million will be add-ons, subject to clauses and achievements. The deal makes Caicedo the most expensive British soccer transfer, just ahead of teammate Enzo Fernandez who joined Chelsea from Benfica. Caicedo has signed an 8-year-long deal, and it is assumed that he will earn 6x more than what he was at Brighton.
How much did Moises Caicedo earn at Brighton?
The 21-year-old midfielder joined Brighton from Ecuadorian Serie A team Independiente del Valle in 2021. He was an integral part of Roberto De Zerbi’s team that qualified for the Europa League and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Moises Caicedo had a 5-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. His weekly salary was $19,000 which rounded up to $990,00 yearly. The midfielders started with a $1900 per week salary in 2021 and rose the ranks but now at Chelsea, it will be significantly more.
According to reports, Caicedo will be earning more than $185,000 per week. The salary would range somewhere between $9-10 Million a year.
Caicedo is set to partner Enzo Fernandez in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield. It will be one of the most expensive midfield duos in the world, as both players joined the Blues on record transfer deals.

Chelsea hosted Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the first game of the season. The two teams shared the spoils on day one, but Chelsea definitely emerged victorious in the Caicedo deal. The two clubs are also fighting to get the signature of Southampton player Romeo Lavia. It will be interesting to see who gets their target this time.
