Celebrities supporting soccer teams is not a new thing. We have seen Millie Bobby Brown supporting Liverpool, that too with a genuine backstory. Sometimes, however, fans tend to react after hearing mainstream celebrities choose one certain club over another. This exact thing happened after recently gone viral actress Jenna Ortega did it.
Jenna Ortega has received overwhelming fame after her latest horror comedy show Wednesday became the latest hit on Netflix. The 20-year-old has before starred in Jane the Virgin and You before. However, Burton’s Wednesday has given her worldwide fame. Wednesday has broken Stranger Things’ latest season’s record for most hours watched in a single week of any Netflix show.
Jenna has received a massive fan following and expectedly enough, fans will monitor her every step. Recently a random Instagram account posted a video of Jenna saying that she likes FC Barcelona over Real Madrid. And as always internet went wild after seeing that video. Real Madrid and Barcelona are two of the biggest rivals and by choosing one she has unknowingly offended the Real Madrid fanbase.
The comments under that post gave mixed reactions. One fan commented, “No watching Wednesday now,” referring to Jenna’s Netflix show. Quite a few comments followed the latest trend of using the ‘Women’ meme. A lot of ‘women’ comments with a cup of tea emoji, filled the comment section.

Another fan comment said, “her show called Wednesday but Barca play on Thursdays,” executing a clever wordplay by referring to Barcelona playing in the Europa League. A lot of Barcelona fans were happy and flooded the comment section with “Visca El Barca” comments. In general, Real Madrid fans were very unhappy, whereas the Barca fans had a field day.
Jenna Ortega almost gave up on acting to become a soccer player
The viral clip of Jenna Ortega is actually an Instagram live where she answered one more question. She was asked to choose between Messi and Ronaldo, and she chose Messi. It wasn’t a random choice by the Wednesday actress, as she was once spotted in Barcelona’s home ground Camp Nou, with Lionel Messi’s name on a Barca shirt.
This is however isn’t the end of Jenna Ortega’s love affair with soccer. Last year she talked about soccer while promoting her show Wednesday. She said to the interviewer, “I actually almost stopped acting to pursue soccer instead,” which took the female interviewer by surprise.
Jenna added more to the context. She said, “Yeah it was that much of a thing. I was any position in the forwards and occasionally mid[field],” revealing that she played as a forward or a midfielder. So, it seems like Jenna Ortega doesn’t follow Barcelona and Leo Messi without any reason. She likes the club and the player.
