Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has been handed a huge blow with Kevin De Bruyne’s injury. De Bruyne was substituted off during Manchester City’s opening fixture against Burnley in the Premier League. With the UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla just about knocking on the door, De Bruyne’s injury is a serious concern for Guardiola’s men.
Kevin De Bruyne had to exit the clash against Burnley during the 28th minute with a hamstring injury. De Bruyne’s current injury is a relapse of the one he suffered during this year’s Champions League final. The Manchester City midfielder suffered an early injury against Inter Milan in the final in the 35th minute. This was the second time that De Bruyne had to be substituted off with an injury in a Champions League final.
Back in the 2021 Champions League final against Chelsea, the Belgian suffered a facial injury. Unfortunately for Guardiola, his star midfielder is set to miss yet another important European clash. The Spanish coach confirmed that De Bruyne is set to be sidelined till the end of 2023. He said, “Itās serious ā a big blow, really tough for us. We have to decide whether he has surgery or no surgery but it will be a few months out.“

Guardiola has also hinted that Phil Foden or Mateo Kovacic would replace De Bruyne. However, not only Guardiola but also Erling Haaland will be feeling the absence of the former Chelsea star. Haaland, who has already started the season in incredible form, has been hugely dependent on De Bruyne’s assists. With City’s midfield maestro out, Haaland might face a tough time to put the ball into the net.
Pep Guardiola fumed at Erling Haaland after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury
Although Manchester City kicked off their Premier League title defense with a commanding victory against Burnley, Pep Guardiola didn’t look happy. City won 3-0 against Burnley with Haaland scoring a brace and Rodri grabbing the third. However, De Bruyne’s injury cast a shadow over City’s victory.

Despite having a 2-0 lead in the first half, Pep Guardiola was spotted fuming at Haaland at halftime. The former Bayern Munich was telling Haaland something in an animated manner. When the camera tried to zoom in on the pair, Guardiola gave a rather annoyed expression and shoved it away. Although the reason behind Guardiola’s gesture isn’t known yet, the City boss was probably wrestling with the thought of De Bruyne’s injury.
