Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola was not so amused when being asked a question about their next Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) being an easy one. The 52-year-old replied to the query in an ironic manner.
Pep Guardiola stated that usually all the games Manchester City are involved in are easy. By continuing his cheeky response, the veteran further stated – “If we don’t win the Premier League by ten points in November, it’s a disaster“. This answer by the City’s manager, adds to his reputation of being ironically absurd in his pre-match interviews over the years.
Manchester City is scheduled to face Wolves in their next Premier League fixture. City is currently sitting at the top of the table in the league standings. With six wins in their first six games, City has made a magnificent start to the season. Moreover, they have scored sixteen goals in these six games. On the other hand, have conceded just three goals so far this season.

Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland is firing on all cylinders again this season. The former Borussia Dortmund player has already scored eight goals in the 2023-2024 Premier League season. Pep will be hoping his striker continues his goal-scoring spree against Wolves. But, the manager amusingly stating that City needs to be 10 points clear by November, puts insane pressure on Haaland to deliver.
As far as Wolves are concerned, they had a bad start to their 2023-2024 campaign. Things on the attacking front have improved under their new manager Garry O’Neil. However, the team is still struggling to convert those chances into goals. They continue to suffer due to their inability to put the ball into the back of the net. With one win and one tie in their first six matches, they currently sit at the sixteenth spot in the table.
However, Manchester City’s manager will know that there are no straight-forward games in the Premier League. Especially as they would remember that Wolves have earlier done a double over them in the 2019-2020 season.
Pep Guardiola gives an update on the fitness of his players ahead of Wolves clash
While discussing the Wolves match the 52-year-old gave updates on the fitness of his players. The manager hinted that the midfielder Kalvin Phillips might start. He also opined that Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic are better fitness-wise. He said, “I don’t know how many minutes”. But inflicted that they would play a part.
City’s manager was of the opinion that their upcoming matches against Wolves, Arsenal, and Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are extremely important. He was asked if Kalvin Phillips’ start, would be an important opportunity for the player. City’s boss stated that it would be because the player’s been waiting for his chances to play “Since arrived”.
