After a disastrous UEFA Champions League campaign that ended with a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, Manchester United quietly tumbled out of Europe. Manager Erik ten Hag’s future is now uncertain once more as a result of the defeat.
To advance over Bayern in its group stage match on December 12 the three-time European champions needed to hope that Copenhagen’s match against Galatasaray, which was taking place simultaneously, concluded in a draw. However, Man Utd lost and was eliminated from the competition drastically.

With just four points, United’s fourth-place result did not even earn them a playoff berth in the Europa League. United only managed to win one of its six group-stage matches, also, with 15 goals conceded in the group stage this year, United gave up more goals than any other English team. This was the club’s sixth elimination from the group stage and its first since 2020–21.

Not only that, Piers Morgan also reminded the United fans about their star and legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s 50 goals scored since he left Man Utd due to a rift with Erik ten Hag. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 50 goals for the club and counter since his move to Saudi side Al Nassr FC back in January 2023.
Piers Morgan quickly took to X(formerly Twitter) to remind Erik ten Hag and the fans of Manchester United regarding their former players’ achievements this year. He wrote on the app, “Cristiano Ronaldo, the man deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United a year ago by Erik Ten Hag, has scored 50 goals for club & country in 2023. The most by any professional footballer in the world. @Cristiano”.

In addition to ending their League Cup defense, Man United’s record of 12 losses in their first 24 games of the season has left them in sixth place in the Premier League. The historical English club has been below standards this 2023-24 season and their fans seem to be losing patience with the performance of their players.
It remains to be seen how Erik ten Hag and his team bounce back from these losses and respond appropriately to the global supporters and critics. After two straight defeats at home in Old Trafford, the patience of the United supporters appears to be running thin. Ten Hag will need to turn the momentum towards his direction if he wants the backing of his supporters.
