Lionel Messi added yet another prestigious trophy to his collection a few days ago. We all know that he led Argentina to a World Cup win in Qatar in stunning fashion. Messi was undoubtedly the best player of the tournament, after finding the back of the net on 7 occasions. His PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappe took home the golden boot after scoring 8 goals.
Together with the World Cup trophy, Messi also brought home the golden ball. It will be his second after falling to Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final. The entire world has been celebrating the legend’s triumph in Qatar this year. There even have been reports that mention Messi’s face might be on Argentina’s banknotes. That’s not all the mayhem Messi has been causing off the pitch.

After lifting the trophy, the PSG superstar posted an image on his Instagram profile. The post broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as well.
Does Lionel Messi have the most-liked Instagram post?
Messi’s Instagram post has accumulated more than 70 million likes on the platform. This has shattered the previous record. The account that held it for a long time, posted an image of an egg and managed to beat Kylie Jenner’s record. However, after almost 4 years, it seems like Messi has taken the throne. The account that now sits in second place, responded to the soccer legend as well.
In an Instagram story, the user wrote, “4 years ago we set out on a mission, 9 days later we made internet history. Together. Today [Lionel Messi] has taken the crown (for now) but I’m still left with one question…” For those who don’t know, the question was that whose side the fans were on; Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

The fact that the user mentioned that the record is Messi’s for now, might come off as a warning. The account held the record for quite some time, and it looks like the users running it are aiming to take it back soon.
Messi beat the record after crossing the 56 million mark a few days ago. To achieve this, fans even took their likes back from the Instagram post of the egg. It has come as a surprise to many as Ronaldo was the one who was assumed to have the edge on the internet.
Speaking of the 5x Ballon d’Or winner, he is the most-followed individual on the platform with more than 500 million followers. But it seems like Messi’s World Cup win with Argentina brought him a step further as well.
It was a trophy that he had been yearning for more than a decade. After plenty of hard work and effort from the rest of the Argentina team, Messi would be happy to realize that he has achieved everything there is to in soccer.
