After the signing of Lisandro Martinez, Erik Ten Hag’s first-choice center-back pairing has been Raphael Varane and Lisandro. Harry Maguire has dropped behind Victor Lindelof, and sometimes even behind Luke Shaw in the priority order.

The payoff makes the deal very interesting and leads to a financial loss for United. The amount puts a heavy mark on their balance sheets and also directly impacts them under Financial Fairplay(FFP) regulations.
Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 on a record transfer from Leicester City. He was then the most expensive soccer center-back of all time, breaking the record of Virgil Van Dijk. He had a good start at Old Trafford but then it faded away.
