Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has been exposed after his comment about Lionel Messi and Alejandro Garnacho. United forward Garnacho recently scored a stunning bicycle kick goal against Everton that drew comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Ferdinand’s comments on Ronaldo’s influence on Garnacho raised quite a storm on the Internet.
During his ‘Vibe with Five’ podcast interview, Rio Ferdinand praised Alejandro Garnacho‘s sumptuous overhead kick goal. The goal was compared to Ronaldo’s stunner against Juventus in the Champions League in 2018. Ferdinand also talked about Ronaldo’s massive influence on Garnacho as the young United star considers the former as his idol.

Ferdinand also revealed a chat with his son where he got to know that Lionel Messi unfollowed Garnacho on Instagram. However, Ferdinand’s claims were later rubbished by Garnacho’s brother Roberto on X (formerly known as Twitter). Roberto Garnacho responded to a video of Ferdinand and wrote, “Fake, Messi never followed him.” He further wrote that his brother had celebrated the World Cup 2022 win with Messi.
Robert’s response was widely retweeted by several X accounts. responding to one of the retweets, Rio Ferdinand wrote, “Sarcasm guys… relax.” However, the former England international has been savaged by soccer fans on the Internet. Several fans pointed out that Ferdinand’s original comments didn’t look like they were sarcastic. Others accused the former Manchester United star of lying and mocked him for getting exposed.
Sergio Aguero had beef with Alejandro Garnacho on the GOAT debate
The Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo is probably the most intense and never-ending debate in soccer. Despite being an Argentine, Alejandro Garnacho has loyalties for Messi‘s arch-nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 20-year-old soccer star has frequently expressed his admiration for the Portuguese ace. After he scored his incredible goal against Everton, Garnacho even imitated Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siuu’ celebration.
Garnacho, however, once had a brief Internet beef with former Argentine star Sergio Aguero on the GOAT debate. Back in 2022, Ronaldo scored a hat trick for Manchester United against Norwich City and gave his match-ball to Garnacho. The Argentine praised the 38-year-old soccer legend on Instagram and added the caption, “Greatest of all times…“

Aguero, however, replied to Garnacho’s post and wrote, “Because you still didn’t play with the best pa @leomessi.” While Garnacho had initially pinned Aguero’s comment on his post, he later removed it. Instead, the United forward pinned Ronaldo’s comment on his post, which was a fist emoji.
