Lionel Messi rarely gets angry on a soccer pitch. Over the years, we have seldom seen Messi lose his cool on the pitch. Always calm and composed, the PSG star has earned the reputation of being a ‘cool-minded‘ soccer star. However, there were some occasions when Messi, during a soccer game, let his emotions get the better of him.
Lionel Messi’s final few years at FC Barcelona saw him get frustrated occasionally. A similar incident occurred during a La Liga match in 2019-2020. It was the final match-day of the season when Barcelona faced minnows Osasuna at Camp Nou. Irrespective of the result match, Barcelona was supposed to finish second in the league, behind the champions, Real Madrid.

However, the match took a surprising turn when Osasuna took an early lead. In what was a rather dull game, Barca failed to convert their chances. Messi himself came close to scoring in the first half when his free kick hit the crossbar. Messi finally managed to equalize for Barca in the 62nd minute, through a splendid free-kick goal. However, Messi, instead of celebrating, gestured angrily.
Soccer fans rarely get to see this side of the Argentine talisman. This statement provides truth to the fact that Messi has only been red-carded once in his entire club career. The red card that Messi received came in the 2020-21 season. Messi was sent off for his violent reaction towards Athletic Bilbao’s Asier Villalibre, during the final of the Spanish Super Cup. As per Fox Sports, this was Messi’s first red card in his 753rd club game.

Bro got tired of carrying the team😭

The former Barcelona star’s unusual reaction was maybe stemming from the fact that their La Liga campaign had been rather dismal. Barca was also out of the Copa Del Rey, and their Champions League campaign later that season ended in a humiliating 2-8 loss to the eventual champions, Bayern Munich.
