Unlike their fans, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are said to have a good relationship off the field. They have been seen embracing each other on a number of occasions at award ceremonies organized by FIFA and UEFA.
Even in his latest interview with Piers Morgan, where he slammed his former club Manchester United, he talked very highly of Lionel Messi.
“As a person, we shared the stage for 16 years, imagine, 16 years. we share. So, I have a great relationship with him,” he said.
“I’m not a friend of his in terms of, what I mean friend is the guy who was with you in your house, speaking on the phone, no, but it’s like a teammate.”
“He’s a guy that I really respect the way he always speaks about me. “
“Even his wife or my wife, my girlfriend, they always respect and they’re from Argentina. My girlfriend is from Argentina. So good.”
Just as he mentioned, they are not friends as the term suggests. So, it is not a surprise that Ronaldo has mentioned Messi only once in his tweets. If you search “Messi” within Ronaldo’s tweets, there is only this one tweet that pops up in the results. What is a surprise is that it was a mistake.
@Cristiano Congrats for today’s game. We argentinians love Lio Messi but you demonstrated that you too are one of the greatest of all times.

As you can see, Ronaldo wanted to retweet the congratulatory message tweeted by Ingacio Nabhen. The Argentine man congratulated him while calling him “one of the greatest of all time” alongside Messi. However, the Portuguese thanked him while repeating the whole message. In the process, Ronaldo tweeted the name “Lio Messi” for the one and only time on Twitter.
