Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni is yet to decide his future at the national team. Following the World Cup qualifier win against Brazil, Scaloni left his future as head coach hanging by a thread. However, recent reports suggest that Scaloni still hasn’t decided anything about continuing as Argentina’s head coach.
According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, Lionel Scaloni will reportedly not be present for Copa America 2024’s draw. The Copa America 2024 is all set to be held in the United States this year. The draw will take place on December 7 in Miami. With several dignitaries from all national teams likely to be present, Scaloni’s presence has been ruled out.

It has been reported that Lionel Scaloni is at odds with Argentina FA president Chiqui Tapia. There has been a clash of opinions between Scaloni and Tapia over some political reasons. Moreover, Scaloni and his coaching staff are yet to receive their bonuses for winning the 2022 World Cup. In addition to this, they have only recently received their bonuses for winning the Copa America a couple of years ago.

As per Gaston Edul, Chiqui Tapia and Lionel Scaloni will sit down before the end of 2023 to discuss Scaloni’s future. The Argentina FA would probably like Scaloni to continue as the national team’s head coach. Scaloni has won three titles, including the World Cup during his five-year stay in charge of the national team. In addition to this, the 45-year-old coach has a win percentage of 72 in the 66 games he has managed so far.
Lionel Messi is yet to comment on Lionel Scaloni’s future
Following Argentina’s historic 1-0 win against Brazil, Lionel Messi spoke at length about various subjects in a post-match interview. Messi talked about the violent altercation between the Argentine fans and the Brazilian police and also spoke about his injury. However, the Argentine skipper was reluctant to speak about Scaloni’s future at the national team.
Messi’s silence about the situation could be a bad indication for Argentina. If Scaloni decides to leave the national team, Messi might also follow in his head coach’s footsteps. Messi’s compatriot Angel Di Maria has recently stated that he will retire from the national team after Copa America 2024. However, unlike Messi, Argentine stars Cristian Romero and Rodrigo De Paul have begged Scaloni to stay on the national team.
