Lionel Messi recently caught the attention of the entire world when he lifted the FIFA World Cup 2022 trophy. It was the only one missing from his legendary collection. Along with the prestigious golden trophy, Messi has three with Argentina; the 2021 Copa America and the La Finalissima trophy.
Messi and Co. left it till late to win the World Cup this year. They had a commanding lead with goals from the man himself and Angel Di Maria. However, Leo’s club teammate, Kylian Mbappe, was a game-changing player. He scored one from the spot, before equalizing with a beautiful volley in the 81st minute.
As we all know, the game was one of the greatest ever. Messi showed up for his country yet again with a goal during extra time. However, just 10 minutes later, Mbappe bagged from the spot once again. The goal brought the game to penalties, where Messi’s Argentina came out victorious. A World Cup win is legendary on its own, but the way that Argentina won made it even better for their fans.

This has prompted the Argentinian government to reportedly consider putting Messi on their official 1000-pesos banknotes, together with his signature. It would be safe to say that it has received mixed responses from fans online.
Are the reports about Argentina planning to put Lionel Messi’s face on 1000-peso banknotes real?
Under an Instagram post that reported the rumor earlier today, soccer fans flooded the comments section. One wrote, “This is getting out of hand.” Some even mentioned, “Just hand over the country to him,”

The news has left many soccer fans confused. Some have expressed their disappointment and believe that Argentina’s celebrations World Cup have gone too far.

Did they actually do all these for Maradona as well ?

Together with that, some soccer fans have raised the question of whether the same was done for Argentina legend Diego Maradona when he won the World Cup for them in 1986. We still have to wonder if the report is true. If Argentina truly decides to have Lionel Messi on their banknotes, it would be a huge honor for a sportsman.
In addition to that, he would be one of the very few people to have such an enormous impact on his country. Although it might be good news for Messi fans, there has been no official confirmation from the authorities. We would have to wait to see if Argentina decide to have Messi’s face and signature on their notes officially.
