A stunning revelation has been made by a Spanish journalist, Joan Fontes, who has recently reported that Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi, was called by FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta. In the said call, Laporta apologized to Messi and the two had a healthy conversation.
Fontes made the revelation in his podcast where he stated that Messi was immensely happy with Laporta after the phone call. He also mentioned that Messi’s chances of a return to Camp Nou look likely after the phone. Manager Xavi has also reportedly been in touch with his former teammate.

But the fans haven’t been convinced by the journalist’s statements as they think that it’s just fan fiction. Messi is running out of his contract in the summer and the fans would want him to return but the financial situation of the Catalan club might not facilitate the transfer.
The fan wrote: “this is such a load of fan fiction but I’d do all kinds of mental gymnastics for Messi to return”
Another fan thought that the sole purpose of the phone call by Laporta was just to ask Messi if he would forgive the club. FC Barcelona previously had let Messi go as they couldn’t afford his contract in 2021.
They wrote: “Laporta: is it too late now to say sorry??”
It remains to be seen what Messi decides at the end of this season after his club PSG was recently knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Bayern Munich. The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner has multiple offers on the table as PSG also wants him to renew the contract with the club.
Lionel Messi’s dream return to Argentina uncertain after attacks on family
As the contract renewal situation with PSG has been delayed significantly, questions have been raised about Messi’s next destination. One of the possible transfers has been a return to Argentina as Messi has previously stated his dream to retire in Argentina.

But the dream might have been broken recently after several gunmen attacked a supermarket owned by Lionel Messi’s in-laws and left a warning threat for the World Cup Champion. They also left a message ‘We’re waiting for you’ which might make Messi rethink his return to Argentina.
The attack might have diverted Messi’s attention to other clubs out of Europe such as Inter Miami and Al-Hilal. Both clubs want to sign the superstar next season. While a return to Barcelona isn’t off the cards, it will be interesting to see what Messi decides as he approaches the climax of his career.
