Lionel Messi made history as he led Argentina to its third FIFA World Cup title. Argentina won the FIFA World Cup after 36 years. Diego Maradona was the one who single-handedly led Argentina to a World Cup victory in 1986. However, in 2022, it was Lionel Messi’s heroics that gave Argentina the title. Argentina defeated France in the a thrilling final which ended 3-3.
Lionel Messi scored a brace, while his PSG teammate and French forward Kylian Mbappe scored a hat trick. With 7 goals and 3 assists, Lionel Messi also won the FIFA Golden Ball for being the best player of the tournament.

Buenos Aires has not stopped the celebrations ever since last Sunday. Millions of people had gathered on the streets in the anticipation of greeting the Argentine team. The Argentine team started their victory parade on a bus, showing off the coveted trophy to all the Argentine people. However, the crowd became so huge that the team ultimately had to be evacuated by helicopter.

Argentina’s World Cup victory has sent the citizens of the South American nation into a frenzy. Alberto Fernandez, the president of Argentina, has declared a national holiday to celebrate the historic day. Approximately 4 million Argentines had flooded the streets of Buenos Aires to join the Argentine team in their World Cup victory parade.
However, the crowd soon became uncontrollable. Many fans tried to jump onto the team bus where Lionel Messi and his teammates were sitting. There were some videos that captured fans climbing to the top of light posts or their vehicles to get a better view of the team. One video showed a fan trying to jump from a highway bridge onto the open-top bus of the Argentina team. Therefore, for the safety of the players as well as the fans, the authorities decided to abort the bus parade and evacuated the players by helicopter.

Chiqui Tapia, the President of the Argentina Football Association (AFA) apologized to the fans for failing to execute the parade properly. He blamed the police for not allowing the smooth functioning of the parade. There were also some minor clashes between fans and police officers. However, those fans were in an intoxicated state.

The Argentine midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, who won the Best Young Player of the Tournament, shared a video of him in the helicopter along with a few other Argentine teammates.
