In a stunning series of events, Germany head coach Hansi Flick has been sacked from his job. After a series of disappointing results, the German FA has finally decided to part ways with Flick. However, the German FA will find it tough to replace Flick with just nine months left for UEFA Euro 2024.
Over the last few years, Germany‘s track record hasn’t been impressive. The European giants had a disastrous 2022 World Cup campaign. After getting knocked out in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup, Flick’s side was aiming to have a successful World Cup campaign last year. However, despite having a talented pool of players, Germany again failed to get past the group stages.

Most recently, Hansi Flick’s Germany has lost four of their last five matches. Moreover, Germany was recently humbled 1-4 by Japan. The loss against Japan proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Flick.
The German FA released a statement where they said, “The men’s senior national team needs new impetus after the recent disappointing results. We need a spirit of optimism and confidence in our own country.“
🇩🇪 Rudi Völler, Hannes Wolf and Sandro Wagner will now take charge of German national team for Tuesday’s friendly against France.

In addition to this, the German FA also wished good luck to Flick, who has been relieved from his duties with immediate effect. Despite Flick’s departure, some big names could replace him. Some of the potential names are Jurgen Klopp, Zinedine Zidane, and Julian Nagelsmann. However, the German FA has yet to announce their decision about their candidate yet.
Hansi Flick’s previous record as a head coach
Back in 2021, Hansi Flick joined the German national team as head coach, having served as an assistant coach previously. He replaced former coach Joachim Low, who won the FIFA World Cup in 2014. In his 25 games in charge of the national team, Flick’s side just won 12 matches. Besides his poor 48% win rate, Flick was responsible for Germany’s group-stage exit in last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Although Flick’s poor record with the German national team doesn’t do justice to his capability as a coach. Flick’s managerial career started way back in 1996 when he took charge of Viktoria Bammental as a player-manager. In 2000, Flick became the manager of TSG Hoffenheim, helping them gain promotion to Regionalliga Süd, the fourth-tier of German soccer.
After a brief stint at RB Salzburg as an assistant coach, Hansi Flick finally became the head coach of Bayern Munich, having worked as an assistant coach under Niko Kovac at the club. Flick’s first season as Bayern Munich’s head coach was incredibly successful. He won the sextuple, including the Bundesliga, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Flick, who was at the helm of the Bundesliga giants for 19 months, set some impressive records. He won 70 of his 86 games at the club for an outstanding 81% win rate. Moreover, he won 23 consecutive matches, a record that remains unmatched by any other German soccer club.
Last but not least, under Flick, Bayern Munich set a new record of 2.97 goals per game, while conceding just 0.99 goals per game (via FC Bayern).
