However, the recently announced concept of the Over-35 World Cup might fulfill the fans’ wishes of seeing them on the soccer pitch again.
The Over-35 World Cup is offering the spectacle of soccer matches with many of the game’s legends. These legends will feature for their respective nation in an enthralling competition.
When is the Over-35 World Cup starting?
The tournament will commence in June 2024 in England. The organizers, Elite Players Group (EPG) have decided to include nations after the year 1930 as participants in the Over-35 World Cup. This automatically qualifies the teams of England, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Uruguay. According to the Daily Mail, the same stadium will host all the matches with clubs from Northern England that are already in contact with EPG.

The tournament will feature 7 matches in total and will be of 70 minutes each. The teams will consist of an 18-man squad and the regulations would allow them the option of ‘rolling-subs.’ Any player above the age of 35 or having more than 100 appearances for their national team will be eligible to play.
EPG has reserved June 4 and 5 for the quarter-finals while June 8 will host the semi-finals. The finals are scheduled to take place on June 11
The exciting competition will feature some elite players
The Daily Mail has already got their hands on the list of provisional squads. England will feature the likes of Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Robbie Flower, etc. Spain will boast the likes of David Villa and Carlos Puyol while Germany will acquire the services of Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira. Thierry Henry will feature for France and Cafu, Ronaldinho, etc. will play for Brazil.
Diego Forlan and Francesco Totti will play for Uruguay and Italy respectively. Argentine fans will be delighted to see the likes of Hernan Crespo and Pablo Zabaleta take to the field once again.

The EPG is playing yet another important role in the tournament. All the EPG founders will captain their national teams. The skippers include Esteban Cambiasso (Argentina), Emerson (Brazil), Christian Karembeu (France), Kevin Kuranyi (Germany), Marco Materazzi (Italy), Michel Salgado (Spain) and Diego Lugano (Uruguay). The former Liverpool player Steve McManaman will lead the host nation England in the tournament.
The EPG has decided the schedule of the tournament by the UEFA Euro 2024 and the UEFA Champions League final. It is safe to say that the summer of 2024 will be an unforgettable time for soccer fans.
