Former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney famously had a hair transplant during his playing career. But was that a success? Or did it turn out to be a huge blunder?
Born on October 24, 1985, Rooney showed signs of a receding hairline early in his life. Since his late teenage years and his early twenties, his receding hairline has been evident. Even more so because all eyes were on him. A teenage prodigy at Everton that transferred to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Rooney kept making a mark everywhere he went. He had also become an important player for the English national soccer team.
In 2011, Rooney admitted to getting a hair transplant. He said, “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not. I’m delighted with the result… I had it done in Harley street hair clinic London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.”
Harley street hair clinic is one of the posh hair clinics and we are guessing as a celebrity, Rooney opted for a celebrity surgeon as well. In his autobiography, My Decade in the Premier League, Rooney wrote that he was becoming self-conscious because of his hairline. He also considered shaving his head completely but decided to get a hair transplant instead.
How many hair transplants has Wayne Rooney had?
Rooney, who suffered from a male pattern baldness, has had at least two hair transplant surgeries. As stated by the official website of Harley street hair clinic, “Wayne visited the Harley Street Hair Clinic for the pre-planned second phase of treatment [in June 2013] of what continues to be his successful follicular hair transplant procedure. This second procedure was scheduled at the time he began his original treatment in 2011.”
Rooney was very open to the treatment and was not shying away from saying it out in public. However, what is not out in public, is the exact cost incurred for the procedure. Some media outlets have put the range to be anywhere from $5000 to $15,000. However, some other media outlets explain the cost to be in the range of $35,000 to $40,000. To Rooney, however, it might not matter too much if it was $5,000 or $40,000.
The success of the transplant was for everyone to see. Rooney’s receding hairline and balding head had turned into a head full of thick hair.
