ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 has a huge clash on September 6 with two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty at ONE 168: Denver for the latter’s ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title.
So, fans couldn’t believe it when they saw him featuring on the huge ONE Friday Fights 68: Prajanchai vs. Di Bella event this Friday, June 28. There, he takes on knockout artist Kongthoranee Sor Sommai in flyweight Muay Thai action before moving up to bantamweight later this year.
However, that doesn’t mean Superlek is taking the Brit lightly by squeezing in another Muay Thai bout. In fact, he knows the fight’s magnitude when he competes on U.S. soil for the very first time this September in Denver, Colorado.
“The only thing that kind of worried me a bit is the process of cutting weight and putting it back on. Before being offered the fight with Kongthoranee, I was putting on weight to prepare for my fight with Haggerty,” Superlek said.
“It’ll be a great experience to fight in front of the new fan base. It’s been huge for me to have more fans from around the world.”
“The Kicking Machine” rides a nine-fight winning streak into ONE Friday Fights 68. Making it 10 in a row against Kongthoranee would be a mighty feat. And it would also set him up for a monumental clash with champion-versus-champion bout with Haggerty at ONE 168.
Superlek believes Kongthoranee’s lack of speed will be his downfall at ONE Friday Fights 68
ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 is synonymous with lightning-fast speed and destructible leg kicks.
That’s seen him take down the likes of ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Japanese kickboxing superstar Takeru Segawa in recent times.
And while he credits the power that Kongthoranee Sor Sommai possesses ahead of their tie at ONE Friday Fights 68: Prajanchai vs. Di Bella this Friday, Superlek insists he will exploit his Thai compatriot’s lack of speed.
“He has knockout power but is also very technical. He’s slow, though. I do think he’s great. He’s confident and on top of his game,” Superlek said.
“I feel like I’m faster than him. For sure, I will try to end the fight either as soon as possible, or with no major injury.”
Getting in and out of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, unscathed will be a wise move for Superlek. And there’s no doubt that bantamweight Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty will be watching closely ahead of their super-fight this September at ONE 168: Denver.
