German fans are in for further exciting moments in the UEFA Euro Cup 2024 as the national team advances to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Denmark. Kai Havertz opened the scoring eight minutes after the second half started from the penalty spot to give Germany the lead, which was later doubled by the magnificent, Jamal Musiala.
The Danes did cause some concerns to the hosts, especially at the end of the first half, but ultimately were not clinical enough in front of the goal. The contest, which suffered a halt due to weather concerns, further stamped Germany’s quality in the event. Die Mannschaft will now face either Spain or Georgia in the quarters.
Julian Naglesmann gets his choices right
German coach, Julian Nagelsmann made some brave calls before the game. Leroy Sane replaced the 21-year-old, Florian Wirtz, and David Raum secured the left-back spot. It surely wouldn’t have been an easy call, considering how well Germany fared in the group stages. However, the 36-year-old manager once again displayed his prowess in both tactical and personnel decisions.
Leroy Sane provided the much-needed legs which caused Denmark to hold their backline throughout the contest. Sane as compared to Wirtz is a more dynamic option which led to Nagelsmann picking him in the eleven. Another big call was to continue with Kai Havertz over Niclas Fullkrug. The Arsenal man scored the decisive penalty, while Fullkrug will continue to cause havoc to the opposition from the bench.
The star of Jamal Musiala keeps shining
Jamal Musiala was one of the several young players to look out for in the European Championship. The Bayern Munich prospect enjoyed a fine season with his club and was expected to repeat the heroics for the national team. The 21-year-old has duly answered the call for his country until now and shows no signs of stopping.
Even though Musiala did not enjoy his best outing against Denmark, he did wrap up his performance with a wonderful goal in the 68ᵗʰ minute. The goal takes his tally in the tournament up to three goals, above everyone else. His brilliance needs to be continued for Germany to achieve its dream of lifting the title on home soil.
