Probably one of the most famous people on the planet, Dana White is the President of the UFC, which is the biggest MMA promotion in the world. White has been in the company from the very start and under his leadership, the $2 million promotion has grown into a multi-billion-dollar corporation.
White studied at Hermon High School, in Maine and later went to Quincy College and UMass Boston. On both occasions, he dropped out in the first semester and started doing odd jobs such as laying asphalt, working as a bouncer at an Irish bar, and being a bellhop at the Boston Harbor Hotel.
White once aspired to be a professional boxer and started training in boxing at age 17. He made some contacts while in the local circuit and through those contacts, White met former Golden Gloves champion, Peter Welch. However, White decided to stop competing and sparring when he saw a boxer with CTE and feared he might suffer the same.
But he continued training and later became a boxercise coach, which involves boxing training but not sparring or competing. When he moved to Las Vegas, White started training jiu-jitsu under John Lewis, Lorenzo Fertitta, and his older brother Frank Fertitta III. Later along with the Fertitta brothers, White would acquire UFC.
It was also when he was training in Jiu-jitsu that White met Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell and later became their manager. White would later meet Semaphore Entertainment Group, the parent company of the UFC, owner Bob Meyerwitz and purchase the company from Meyerwiz along with the Fertitta brothers.
Dana White’s net worth is estimated to be around $500 million as of 2022. His salary is around $20 million per annum but it is only an estimation as the official number is not available.
White is a businessman and an entrepreneur and his source of wealth come from the UFC but he can be often seen partaking in gambling and is known for winning big money in casinos.
Despite being the president of the largest MMA promotion in the world, White doesn’t have any other business endeavors. Apart from the UFC, White has other combat sports which are associated with the promotion. Dana White’s Contender Series and the most recent slap-fighting league, Power Slap League are the subsidiaries of the UFC.
White also donates to various charitable funds and good causes. As per some reports, he has donated $100,000 to Dustin Poirier’s Charity, and $50,000 for a liver transplant of an instructor’s daughter in the renowned Tiger Muay Thai Gym. The American has also donated $1 million to the victims of the shooting in Las Vegas.
White is the president of the UFC and holds a major stake in the company but he does not own the promotion. Currently, the UFC is owned by Endeavor Group Holdings alongside Silver Lake Partners, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, and MSD Capital via Zuffa, LLC, and White.
White along with the Fertitta brothers purchased UFC for $2 million and later the promotion became an ancillary of Zuffa, LLC where White became the president.
As per the reports, his 9% stake in the company is worth $360 million after UFC’s parent company, Zuffa was sold to WME-IMG for $4.025 billion. The company had tremendous growth throughout the years and in 2015, its gross revenue was $600 million.
