Khamzat Chimaev has taken the UFC world by storm and is one of the most famous MMA fighters in the world. The Russian-born-Swedish is known for his dominant fighting style, elite wrestling, and strong personality.
‘Borz’ has a 12-0-0 pro MMA record with a 92% finish rate, including 5 by knockout victories, 6 by submission, and 1 by decision. Chimaev is considered one of the best freestyle wrestlers in the promotion. Since his debut, Chimaev has been mauling people and winning bouts without taking any strikes.
The Chechen is a gold medalist in freestyle wrestling, winning gold at the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Swedish Freestyle National Championships at 86 kilograms in multiple weight classes. Apart from this, he has competed in judo and sambo tournaments.
Since his pro debut against Gard Olve Sagen in 2018, Chimaev maintained a spotless record. The majority of his wins came by stoppages and in some fights, he didn’t even take any damage.
The Chechen made his UFC debut against John Phillips in 2020. He submitted Philips in the second round and his following matches, Chimaev demonstrated spectacular performances.
‘Borz’ quickly rose to stardom and began making headlines for calling out top contenders from higher classes. Chimaev also became the center of some controversies. He often gets involved in backstage brawls and violent altercations.
However, he backs up by his dominant performances. Since his debut, Chimaev has fought a total of 6 more times. Only one of his fights went to the distance when he fought one of the top welterweights, Gilbert Burns.
Chimaev was set to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 279 but that fight was canceled as he missed weight. He was also involved in a backstage brawl with Team Diaz and Kevin Holland.
The main card of UFC 279 was reshuffled and Chimaev went on to fight Kevin Holland. He beat Holland very easily and dominated him throughout out the fight before submitting him in the 1st round.
Chimaev’s net worth is estimated to be around $1 million. But some sources suggest that the number could be much more than that. He made his biggest payday when he beat Burns at UFC 273. Reportedly, he made a whopping $350,000 from that fight.
Khamzat Chimaev is one of the most famous fighters on the roster. He is currently sponsored by Smilodox. However, some brands which are associated with him are Energy Drink, Hatstore, and RDX Sports.
The Chechen is very close to Darren Till and Till is often seen cornering Chimaev. He trains and hangs out with Till. Both of them helped a soup kitchen in Stockholm to feed the homeless.
Chimaev was born in the Chechen Republic of Russia but later moved to Sweden. As per the sources, he started wrestling when he was five years old and won bronze medals in National tournaments. When he turned 18, Chimaev immigrated to Sweden with his mother and joined his older brother, Artur, who competes in freestyle wrestling.
Chimaev trains at Allstar Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden. Since starting his pro-MMA career, Chimaev has been training there. He also used to live in the gym at the start of his career.
According to sources, he used to work at a poultry factory in Kalmar before moving to Stockholm. He also did some security work before making his professional debut.
Chimaev allegedly got married in his hometown, Chechnya. However as Chimaev is very secretive about his personal life, there is no information about his wife.
