Luka Doncic is a Point Guard for the Dallas Mavericks. Luka was born on the 28th of February 1999 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. His mother, Mirjam Poterbin owns beauty salons and his father, Sasa Doncic is a basketball coach. After his parents divorce in 2008, Luka was raised by his mother.

Growing up Luka was fond of sports and played basketball in his primary school. He was a fan of the Greek Basketball player, Vassilis Spanoulis and grew up in awe of LeBron James.

At the young age of 8, Luka began playing for his hometown club, Union Olimpija. He practiced with the under 14 team but played only in the under 12 team due to league rules. Luka Doncic also won the MVP award in 2011 when he represented Olimpija in the under 14 Vasas Intesa Sanpolo Cup.

Luka also represented Real Marid’s under 18 team and the reserve team. He averaged 13.5 points and also won the Ciutat deL’Hospitalet Tournament.

Real Madrid Days

In 2015, Luka Doncic made his debut for Real Madrid professionaly in the Liga ABC. He was the youngest player to ever play for Real Madrid. He played 5 games in 2015-15 season. In the following season, Luka became a key player on the Real Madrid squad and also played against the Boston Celtics in a NBA pre season game.

The Rise Of Luka Doncic

2016-2018 saw the rise of a superstar. Luka Doncic was spreading magic in a Real madrid jersey. He went on to become the youngest player to earn the MVP of the round in the Europa League after recording 16 points. He also helped Real Madrid secure a finals seat in 2017 with his outstanding performances. Luka was crowned EuroLeague Rising Star and the ACB Best Young Player.

In the 2017-18 season, Luka’s role in the Real Madrid squad became more important. He recorded a career high 27 points in his first Euro League game. By the end of October, Luka had earned the title of MVP of the month again becoming the youngest player to do so. Doncic helped Real Madrid reach the finals and secure a victory over Fenerbache Dogus to take home the trophy. Luka went on to become the youngest ever MVP of the EuroLeague with an average of 16 points per game.

Rookie Year In The NBA

On the 21st of June 2018, Luka Doncic was the third pick in the NBA draft. He was initially  picked by the Atlanta Hawks but was traded on the same night to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Trae Young.

Luka Doncic was not seen on court during the 2018 NBA Summer league due to a late buyout from Real Madrid.

He made his regular season debut against the Phoenix Suns and even though the Mavs lost the game, Luka registered 10 points in his first game.

Luka went on to become the youngest player to achieve twenty points in the franchise as he registered 26 point against the Timberwolves. In November, Luka Doncic was named Rookie of the Month.

His time with the Mavs showed the world why he deserved  to stay in the league. Luka went on to become the first teenager in NBA history to have a 30 point triple double. Luka Doncic was also crowned rookie of the year.

First Playoff Appearance

Luka Doncic played his first all star game in the 2019-20 season. He was  the youngest European starter in an All-Star Game.  He then went on to get to the Playoffs.

Luka made his playoff debut against the Clippers on august 17th. He registered 42 points which is the most points ever made in a playoff debut.

With 43 points and 17 rebounds, Luka went on to become the youngest player in NBA playoff history with a 40 point triple double.

The 2020-21 Season

Matching his career high 42 points against the Golden State Warriors, Luka Doncic came into the season with a bang. He went on to set a career high of 46 points with 12 assists against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Luka was also the fourth player in NBA history to have a 30 point triple double with a minimum of 20 assists. Luka took the Mavericks to their second straight playoff run. Kawhi Leonard and Los Angeles Clippers eliminated the Mavs in the first round of the 2021 Playoffs.

Junior National Team Career

Luka Doncic missed the Division B tournament in 2014 due to a knee injury. In 2014 December he went on to play a friendly tournament and averaged 35.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He had an impressive stat of 81% from two pointers and 57% from on three pointers

Senior National Team Career

Doncic represented the Slovenian national team in 2017. The country won it’s first gold medal that same year. They had a 9-0 record. In the first game Luka scored 27 points and was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Luka is also known for giving back to the community. Luka put up his shoes for auction in 2017 after the Euro League victory. The money was raised to help young basketball players, Dirk Nowitzki also organized a charity tennis match and Luka was there to participate.
