Magomed Alibulatovich Ankalaev aka Magomed Ankalaev is a Russian professional mixed martial artist competing in the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Ankalaev's journey began when he was a student at Dagestan State University. He started with Greco-Roman wrestling for a year and moved to combat sambo, where he was honored with the title of Master of Sports. Later, Ankalaev decided to move to MMA, where he became the world champion in amateur MMA as well as being named the 2015 Mixed Martial Artist of Russia by the Russian MMA federation.
Ankalaev is mostly known for his exceptional striking abilities, despite his background in sambo and wrestling. He has never secured a victory through submission. Instead, he relies on knockouts or decisions to emerge triumphant. Currently, he is ranked #3 in the UFC light heavyweight division.
