On Monday morning, the first Grand slam of the year 2022 commenced with Men’s and Women’s single matches.
After a long haul of Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open fiasco with regards to his vaccine status, the Grand Slam officially set off with Men’s and Women’s singles on January 17th. Djokovic was deported after a prolonged controversy after his breach of COVID protocols of Australia, despite getting a medical exemption earlier this month. The defending champion could not participate in the Australian Open as a result of this move by the Australian government.
With no World no. 1 as a participant, Daniil Medvedev moved up the rankings to be the highest one and replaced the Serbian tennis star. While the Russian is the top- seed in the Men’s singles, Ashleigh Barty holds the high rank in the Women’s singles set.
