Butler posted a video on Instagram where he was seen watching the match on his phone. On match point, he let out a roar and said, “Bye bye!.. GG’s Nadal, or however you say your name.” The Miami Heat player had played against Alcaraz at the 2023 US Open during a charity exhibition match. He has regularly followed Alcaraz’s matches.

It was the fourth meeting between Alcaraz and Nadal and their second match on hard courts. The match saw Nadal taking the lead and Alcaraz slowly catching up to him. It was a best of three sets, with the third set being a tiebreaker. The match certainly boosted Butler, who has often talked about Alcaraz’s talents.

The NBA star even beat the world No.2 in a friendly rally on the court. Butler talked about why he had become a fan of Alcaraz. He spoke about the qualities of Alcaraz, which make him stand out against other players.
Butler mentioned the kind of attitude Alcaraz had on the court. He said, “Incredible to witness in person, he never gives up on any ball, he’ll dive, he’ll do something miraculous just to try to get the ball over the net and win a point.” The 20-year-old is one of the fastest movers on the court and does not hesitate to chase down balls from any part of the court.
Butler had stayed up late to watch the 2023 Wimbledon final featuring Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. He was at Wimbledon to watch the semifinal match where Alcaraz beat Holger Rune. Butler hopes that world No.2 will successfully defend his title at Indian Wells. Alcaraz will play his first match at Indian Wells on March 9.
