Daniil Medvedev had a glorious campaign in the Australian Open. Ever since he reached the finals of the US Open and won it from Novak Djokovic who is the world number 1, the Russian Superstar has hit a purple patch in his professional tennis career ever since.
In light of the contributions and the experience, he has portrayed in the various grand slam tournaments he has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus Award alongside six other tennis stars including Novak Djokovic, Ashleigh Barty, Emma Raducanu, Diede de Groot and Shingo Kunieda.

This is Daniil Medvedev’s first nomination in the Laureus Award in the category of the Breakthrough of the Year Award since he won his first grand slam title in the US Open 2021 by beating the Serb, Novak Djokovic. Medvedev has become a prominent and feared name for his opponents ever since he won 4 tournaments in 2021 including the ATP Masters 1000 Canada in Toronto and also achieved the best ever World Number 2 in the ATP Rankings.

Djokovic has previously been nominated for this award in 2012, ‘15, 16 and ‘19 and has won this prestigious award every single time he has been nominated for his excellent exploits in the sport of tennis.

Novak Djokovic was Ranked 1 entirely for the 2021 season which portrays his sheer dominance and consistency in the sport. In the 2021 season alone, the Serb has won five titles including the Australian Open, Rolland Garros and the Wimbledon. He beat Roger Federer’s record for being Ranked the World Number 1 for the longest amount of time.
