Daniil Medvedev will be out of action for one or two months. This is because he went under the knife to fix a hernia problem. Giving the update through his social medias the Russian indirectly confirming his withdrawal from the 2022 French Open.
That timeline suggests Medvedev likely will miss the next French Open, which begins on May 22, 2022. He reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros last year after losing in the first round in each of his first four appearances there.
The Russian briefly reached No. 1 in the ATP rankings for the first time in February, before Novak Djokovic regained the top spot. At his most recent two tournaments, Medvedev dropped his second match at Indian Wells, California. He then exited in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Miami Open.
Daniil Medvedev on his recovery from the hernia surgery
Daniil Medvedev won the U.S. Open last year and lost in the Australian Open final to Rafa Nadal in January. He will likely miss out on this month’s Monte Carlo Masters as well as the ATP 1000 events in Madrid and Rome in May.
Hi everyone. The last months I have been playing with a small hernia. Together with my team I have decided to have a small procedure done to fix the problem. I will likely be out for the next 1 – 2 months and will work hard to be back on court soon. Thanks for all the support.

After going under the knife, Medvedev tweeted, “The last months I have been playing with a small hernia. Together with my team I have decided to have a small procedure done to fix the problem. I will likely be out for the next 1 – 2 months and will work hard to be back on court soon. Thanks for all the support.”
It’s has been a week since the hernia surgery. Medvedev gave an update on his recovery through his Instagram stories. He is seen healthy and playing on the Play Station. He wrote, “It’s been a week since the surgery has been done. I’m feeling way better. Will start easy work-outs in a few days, now only PS workouts possible.”
Having an injury doesn’t seem like the only thing that is going to challenge Daniil from competing in upcoming grand slams. Amid the Russia-Ukraine contention, England’s Sports minister Nigel Huddleston declared that he wants all athletes from Russia and Belarus to prove they are “genuinely neutral” by signing an agreement before competing in UK events.
Huddleston said, “We wish to get the assurance of that in a written declaration that they are not receiving money from [Vladimir] Putin, Russia or Belarus. That they will not be making supportive comments of Putin, Russia or Belarus.”
Even the International Tennis Federation has said that the players from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to compete under their own flag. However, at present they can compete as individuals.
