Michael Jordan is a name not unknown to almost any person on this planet not because of his huge set of achievements, but because of the legacy he’s created for himself.
The former Chicago Bulls player is one of the most minted athletes of all time owing to his endorsement and brand collaboration of ‘Jordans’ with sporting giant Nike.
Heading into a different direction altogether from his sport, Jordan once applauded American tennis icon Serena Williams and showered upon her a special gift in remembrance of one of her greatest victories when she bagged her 23rd Grand Slam title.
Serena after clinching the 2017 Australian Open received a white box as a special gift from Michael Jordan with the number 23 written on it to which on an interview with SportsCenter she said “What is this guys? I don’t like surprises!”
Upon unpacking the box, Serena discovered a pair of Jordan sneakers she apparently loved to rock in post-matches and surprisingly, came in the same color she loved.
The box also contained a handwritten note by the NBA legend himself saying “Congratulations with much respect on winning No. 23. It will be a privilege to keep watching your determination on the court. Your friend, Michael Jordan,” following Serena adding a 23rd title to her shelf despite being pregnant.
Are Serena Williams and Michael Jordan friends?
Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan has led an interesting career and over the period has made friends in high places and those still competing in the NBA.
For instance, late NBA player Kobe Bryant was one of Jordan’s closest allies, and LA Lakers basketballer LeBron James, who Serena Williams is also friends with, is one of many of his confidantes.
