About two months after his deportation from Australia and ban from playing the first grand slam of the tournament, the current World No.1 Novak Djokovic talks about missing out on the action and coming back to play only his second tennis event this year.
The Serbian tennis pro was not permitted to play the Australian Open 2022 because of his unvaccinated status and had to withdraw from other tourneys such as the Indian Wells open due to his vaccination stance. However, he did kick off his return to the game by participating in the Dubai Tennis Championships that took place in February, in which he was ousted by the Czech player Jiří Veselý in the quarter- final round.
Novak Djokovic says it’s time to move on as he gears up for the Monte Carlo Masters 2022
Novak will be looking forward to get back on the track with the forthcoming ATP 1000 event, which commenced on 9th April. Scheduled to play his first round on 12th April, Djokovic is set to face the Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
In a recent interview, the Serbian athlete stated–
“The last four, five months have been really challenging for me mentally and emotionally but here I am and I try to leave all that behind and move on.”
Referring to his Australian Open debacle, Novak Djokovic added-
“I don’t feel like it has left huge scars on me that I’m unable to train or participate in tournaments or live my life. I will try to use that as a fuel for what’s coming up.”
Djokovic is all set to be back in the action by using the past experiences as his motivation. “I still feel motivation to be on the tour and compete… and try to challenge the best players in the world for the biggest titles,” expressed the World No.1 saying how he misses the competition.
Hinting his participation in this year’s French Open, Novak said-
“I will try to use [the French Open title] as an inspiration to kick-start the clay court season the best possible way.”
He added that it would take him sometime to be at his best as he’ll play some matches to get back in the groove.
The Monte Carlo Masters 2022 is an ongoing a clay court tournament held in Monaco, that is scheduled to go on till 17th of April. Players like Fabio Fognini (Italy), Sebastian Korda (USA), Albert Vinolas (Spain) among others have advanced to the next rounds after Day- 1 of the ATP event.
