Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis won the men’s doubles title at the Australia Open 2022. They got a 7-5 6-4 victory over Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell in the men’s doubles final.
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis were given little to no chance of winning the title when they began their doubles campaign three days into the Australian Open.
As a pair on the ATP circuit they hadn’t ever advanced beyond the quarter-final stage. They only gained entry into the Australian Open doubles draw as wildcards.
However, on their way to victory they knocked out the teams seeded 1st, 3rd, 6th and 15th. They claimed huge scalps as they moved aged in this Australia Open journey.
