Rafael Nadal is one of the few players in the tennis circuit respected by everyone. He is undoubtedly loved and supported by his peers and critics alike owing to his exponentially charismatic on-court performances.
The Spaniard who turned pro almost two decades ago has successfully clinched 22 Grand Slam titles. He has always made a huge comeback whenever backed into a corner. It has turned him from an underdog to a favorite.
Despite heeding many triumphs, Nadal has been a target of various physical issues. He is one of the most injury-prone players competing in the ATP circuit. It naturally makes it hard for him to keep up with constant professional appearances.
It is no surprise that injuries have taken a toll on the Spaniard numerous times in his career. As a result, he has often taken time off from touring in the ATP circuit.
Most recently, Rafa underwent a hip injury that occurred while he was competing in the Australian Open 2023. He sustained the injury and was seen kneeling from excruciating pain in his hip region. At that moment the camera captured his wife Maria Perello breaking into tears.
Not long after the 36-year-old was forced into taking an extended period of recovery owing to the injury, speculations circling the 22-time Grand Slam retiring shortly ran wild.
Rumors suggest that Rafa’s wife Maria wants him to retire as the legend has been impaled with injuries. In the past few seasons, Nadal has mostly suffered from abdominal and hip issues, which is likely the result of the intense performances called for in the sport.
Rafael Nadal and his wife Maria Perello recently welcomed a child
Manacor sensation Rafael Nadal, unlike the majority of celebrities, is known to keep his personal life under wraps and shielded away from the media.
Rafa, who tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend of 12 years Maria Perello in October 2019, recently welcomed their first baby last year in October 2022 and ironically, named him after himself, Rafael Nadal Perello. The happy news was announced by the couple on Twitter one week after they were blessed with a baby.
As of now, the Spaniard is recovering from the unfortunate reoccurrence of the hip injury he sustained earlier this season and is likely to not give up on professional tennis without putting up a fight.
