Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest players of modern times. He has had a long and decorated career and has seen a lot of ups and downs. Through it all, he had one person by his side, like a rock. It was none other than his wife, Jelena Djokovic.
Novak and Jelena were high school sweethearts who went to the same school in Belgrade, Serbia. They officially started dating in 2005 and then tied the knot in 2014. Like any couple, Jelena and Novak have also had their fair share of obstacles, but they have always managed to overcome them.
A couple of years ago, Jelena sat down for an interview with Graham Bensinger. She spoke on a number of topics, including marriage, relationship struggles, kids, etc. Throughout the interview, Jelena offered a glimpse into her life, not just as Novak’s wife but as a woman too.
While Novak is an accomplished player, Jelena is her own person as well. Which is why she decided to leave on a spiritual trip to Ecuador in the middle of Wimbledon. It was important for her to do this for herself, and she left within two days. Jelena went on to add how she was spent after Roland-Garros and Novak were very supportive of her.
Djokovic went on to speak about the most difficult time in their relationship. Jelena added how she challenged perceptions about being an athlete’s wife and what it entails. “I was trying to compete with him because I felt I was deserving, but not getting enough credit because I am doing it more backstage,” she said.
Jelena and Novak got through one of the toughest periods of their lives together. They are one of the steadiest couples in the tennis world. However, there is one area where they still hold differing views.
Jelena Djokovic on having more children with Novak
Novak and Jelena already have two children: their older son Stefan, whom they had in 2014. Their daughter, Tara, was born in 2017.
While both Novak and Jelena are happy with their children, Novak wants more. Jelena, however, does not. She reasoned that she grew up in a family of two and wants to give both her children the best she can.

Jelena added that she understood why Novak wanted more children. Tennis has kept him away from his family, and he missed out on a lot of things when he was away. She did not completely rule it out, but for the time being, her decision is a solid no.
Jelena Djokovic and Novak have built a wonderful life together, and their love for each other shines through. For now, though, Novak has to settle for their two kids.
