The first week of the US Open has been exciting, to say the least. The Last Grand Slam of the year has seen it all, even before the second week has rolled around. There have been unexpected comebacks and major upsets, and very recently, a four-legged interruption.
A squirrel managed to sneak onto the court during a doubles game at the Flushing Meadows. Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva were playing against Greet Minnen and Yanina Wickmayer when it happened.
Once the umpire noticed the fifth participant on the court, the point was immediately called dead. Siegemund and Zvonareva were on the verge of winning a point but were greatly dismayed by this interruption.
A squirrel is quite a reason to replay a point 🐿️ pic.twitter.com/eanseJ45cp

It was a hilarious interruption though, and the poor creature scurried off of the court. The spectators and commentators got a good laugh out of this, even if did cost a point to Siegemund-Zvonareva.
Fans online reacted to this funny moment too, as one user commented, “Trying to get a better view I think!” Here are a few of the funniest reactions.
Hahaha that’s hilarious. 🐿️ trying to get a better view I think !

Siegemund and Zvonareva eventually won the next point and the match, defeating their opponents 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-0. They will face Robin Montgomery and Clervie Ngounoue in the next round.
The women’s doubles matches at the US Open so far
The women’s doubles matches at the US Open have been brilliantly unpredictable. Much like the singles, the doubles games have been very entertaining.
The defending champions of the women’s doubles, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova were knocked out in the second round. They were defeated by fellow Czech players Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Strycova.
Marketa is this year’s Wimbledon champion in women’s singles, whereas Strycova won the doubles title at the All England Club this year. Together, they trounced the defending champions 6-2, 6-3.
Second-seeded Elise Mertens and Storm Hunter were upset in the first round itself. Danielle Collins and Nadiia Kichenok showed Mertens and Hunter the exit door.
With the top two seeds out, this leaves Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula as the highest seeds left in the tournament. They will play Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the next round.
