All is not lost for Daniil Medvedev, the losing finalist of U.S. Open 2023. The Russian, who lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets was visibly upset after the finals. He went on to admit that he shouldn’t have stuck to his baseline play, which enabled Novak to employ the serve and volley style to good effect. But, Daniil, who is a fighter at heart, should be back at his best for the remainder of the season.
Similar sentiments were echoed by his coach, Gilles Cervara who explained, “This US Open final makes us hungry. It gives us confidence, it gives us the desire to be able to perform well at the end of the season and in the tournaments.” He was of the opinion that the loss at New York would go on to egg him on, in the upcoming events.
It’s love ❤️

The 27-year old Russian had to endure extremely sultry conditions in the U.S leg of the ATP tour. Thereby, he chose to take time off with his family, instead of competing at the tournament in Frankfurt. Cervara however clarified that they have returned to training this week and are eager to prove a point.
Daniil Medvedev has it in him to take the fight to the best
It is not that Daniil takes things lying down. He always had the tenacity to fight back from difficult situations, even in tough five setters. The 2022 Australian Open final in which Daniil Medvedev participated, bears ample testimony to this fact. Though the Russian lost, he kept taking the fight to the legend, Rafael Nadal, in a match that lasted for a staggering, 5 hours and 24 minutes.
But, for him to make it big in the upcoming tournaments, he has to find ways to put it past Novak and Alcaraz. Though, the Russian overcame the challenge from the Spaniard, Djoker Nole proved to be a little too much to handle. Daniil needn’t look outside for inspiration, as it is the same opponent which he defeated in the finals of U.S.Open 2021, in straight sets, to claim his first and only major till date.
With his unorthodox way of approaching the sport and the unique “Octopus” style of play, he has made heads turn. People are starting to take notice and are getting inspired by him. Medvedev is responding to such reactions in his own style, thus lending a lighter side to his character as well.
Inspiring new generations everywhere! 💪👍

These kind of gestures from fans are bound to motivate him and enable him to come back stronger. As Cervara put it, “The last five tournaments that we have left are still prestigious and important tournaments. So, I really hope that we will be good as a team, hoping that Daniil will perform very well.” In all fairness, the lanky Russian is very much capable of it and hopefully, he can outshine his peers.
