SUMMARY
- Holger Rune has gained a bit of ill reputation for changing coaches so often.
- With Boris Becker stepping down, Rune opened up about the reason behind such frequent coach changes.
Holger Rune is an exciting player to watch when he gets going. However, of late, he seems to be in the news a lot for parting ways with his coaches. Rune has not quite found the winning formula with someone just yet, which has resulted in his coaches getting sacked.
The young Dane’s woes began in 2023. He started the year off well, but his form tapered off towards the end. He found success under Patrick Mouratoglou, as he won the Paris Masters in 2022, but could not replicate it since. Rune split with Mouratoglou after his disastrous outing at the US Open last year, where he crashed out in the first round.
Holger employed former German star Boris Becker, and the Dane started to flourish under him. He boosted his coaching team by adding Roger Federer’s coach, Severin Luthi. However, Luthi decided to step down from his role as coach after Rune’s forgettable run at the Australian Open.

Becker’s sudden resignation this week shocked the tennis world. Holger’s mother, Aneke Rune, also decided to step down as his manager in the wake of this news. And now, Holger has finally spoken up, giving a glimpse into the reason he has changed coaches so often.
“I have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to feel good and at the same time develop. I have big ambitions and big goals, and I need people around me who have the same visions and who I can trust to achieve my goals,” he said (via Tennis-Infinity).
Holger Rune reacts to the Becker split via an IMG press release (mother Aneke is no longer his press manager).
“As you know, I have tried different coaching variations during the last 12 months.
After working with the same coach for 15 years, my entire tennis life, it is not…

Holger Rune is still very young, and he has a lot of time to find a coach as per his needs. Many are eager to work with him now that he is without a guide, including Serena Williams’ former mentor.
Rennae Stubbs makes an offer to Holger Rune
With Becker out of the picture, Rune has already started getting offers from potential coaches, it seems. One of them is Rennae Stubbs, who has worked with the likes of Serena and Karolina Pliskova.
The former Australian star saw an opportunity to work with Rune and took her chance. Stubbs took to social media to inform Rune that she had some spare time up her sleeve.
@holgerrune2003 i have some time up my sleeve.

Holger Rune is going through a rough time. Hopefully, he will find a coach who will suit his requirements. The season is long, and Holger will bounce back from this.
