Serena Williams without a doubt had high hopes for Rihanna singing after a cooling-off period for several years. Her appearance at the Superbowl also contributed to the fact that she owns a minority stake in her NFL team, Miami Dolphins, which unfortunately was eliminated during the knock-out stages of the game.
In an exclusive interview with Essence, Serena talked about how she would love for Rihanna to perform her favorite song on stage saying “I sure hope she does [“Lift Me Up”]. It makes me cry every time.”
Sadly Williams’ wishes were not met as the Barbadian singer did not perform the song she optimistically hoped for but that did not stop the American legend to enjoy the show and dancing to the evergreen green beats of the iconic pop singer.
