Crawford vs Porter generates 135,000 PPV Buys:
As reported by The Ring, Crawford vs Porter made a total of 135,000 pay-per-view buys on ESPN pay-per-view, through ESPN+. Even though the 135,000 figure is quite a decent number it didn’t meet Crawford’s expectations. Rightly so, Canelo vs Caleb made a total of 800,00 PPV buys, and considering Crawford’s stature in the boxing world he deserved better.
According to him, there were a lot of opportunities left on the table,”. While showing his disappointment on the PPV’s scheme of streaming on an app Crawford stated:
“Do you know what I mean? Not only with fighters but also with pay-per-view. Like for instance, me and Shawn Porter fought on an app. There were so many people that were telling me they don’t know how to get the app on the TV, they don’t know how to do it…And, you know, the average elderly or person that doesn’t, you know, know tech, they not gonna know how to get the app on the TV. So, what do they do? They don’t buy it. You know, so I feel like, you know, that was a setup [in] its own right, right then and there.” to the USA today.
Terence Crawford Part Ways With Promoter Bob Arum:
Crawford also announced that he was parting ways with Bob Arum in the post-fight interview and revealed that he would be opting for free agency, showing no hurry to sign a new contract. Terence Crawford and Bob Arum have had their differences in the past.
Arum had earlier opined that Terence Crawford’s inability to sell himself. He received a lot of backlash for his comments. Needless to say, the decision by Crawford to leave Top Rank isn’t quite surprising.
Crawford also stated that Arum’s inability to make the fight against Errol Spence Jr. also prompted him to leave Top Rank. Crawford joins the likes of Canelo Alvarez in opting for free agency. Earlier this year, Alvarez parted ways with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions after contractual disputes.
