Beyond a reason of doubt, Khabib Nurmagomedov has cemented himself as arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. Many hoped that Justin Gaethje would be the answer to Khabib’s dominant MMA run, however, it was the Dagestani fighter who still managed to reign on the top with a submission win in the second round of the main event of UFC 254 to successfully defend his lightweight strap.
Former dual champion Conor McGregor took to Twitter to congratulate the undisputed king of the lightweight division Khabib as he shared warms regards for Khabib and his family.
Good performance @TeamKhabib.
I will carry on.
Respect and condolences on your father again also. To you and family.
Yours sincerely, The McGregors.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 24, 2020
“Good performance Khabib Nurmagomedov. I will carry on. Respect and condolences on your father again also. To you and family. Yours sincerely, The McGregors.” the tweet stated.
Soon after the victory, Khabib broke into tears, remembering about his late father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Additionally, in an unfortunate news for the fight fans, Nurmagomedov stated that it was his last fight inside the Octagon. Khabib added that he has no plans of returning to the Octagon without his father at his side and showed no interest in fighting Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.
It’s safe to say that we might never witness Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor rematch. With the Dagestani fighter retiring and McGregor expected to make his UFC return
Khabib Nurmagomedov proves why he is the best
The long-standing rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor may have come to an end. McGregor said, “I will carry on” which could have been a direct statement that the Notorious is not retiring and will continue the lightweight division in Khabib’s absence. There’s a reason to believe that Khabib might vacate the lightweight strap sooner or later. However, nothing has been official yet.

Khabib added that it was his father’s wish to see Khabib take on Georges St-Pierre. There have been talks that St-Pierre might make a comeback to take on Khabib Nurmageomdov. However, the division has been an issue for the former Welterweight contender who expressed an interest to fight Nurmagomedov at a special weight class.
