Former UFC lightweight title contender Nate Diaz reacted to Poirier’s KO win over the former dual champion and arch-nemesis Conor McGregor. Diaz took to Twitter and said, “These guys all get finished all the time.”
Conor McGregor suffered the first stoppage loss of his MMA career with a devastating right hand in the second round of the UFC 257 main event. The PPV marked McGregor’s return to the lightweight division. With this, McGregor has lost two of his last three fights, with the sole win coming over MMA veteran Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in the welterweight division.

Nate Diaz became the first fighter to hand a loss to Conor McGregor when he submitted the then-featherweight champion in the second round at UFC 196. Both the fighters would meet in a rematch, with McGregor taking home a controversial majority decision over the “Stockton Slugger.”
With a win over McGregor, Dustin Poirier has already gone down as one of the greatest lightweight fighters of all time. The former interim champion mentioned Nate Diaz in the post-fight press conference and expressed his interest in a potential match-up against the Stockton native.

With this, McGregor could also be looking at a potential trilogy bout with Nate Diaz, who is coming off a TKO loss over Jorge Masvidal back at UFC 244. Diaz hasn’t fought in more than a year and will likely look to fight the top-ranked contenders in his return fight. Earlier, UFC President Dana White stated that the promotion is working on a potential lightweight return for Nate Diaz.

However, he denied any possibility of Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson. There were reports that a possible Justin Gaethje vs Nate Diaz could be in the works for a lightweight bout.
Additionally, a possible rematch against former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos could also be in the works. However, nothing has been made official by the UFC and Nate Diaz remains without an opponent for the time being.

However, it speaks volumes about Diaz’s popularity and credibility to remain relevant with multiple losses to his name. Despite the lackluster resume, Diaz continues to be a frontrunner for the championship belt with a win to his name. It remains to be seen what lies ahead for the former lightweight contender who will look to make his 155 return with a statement.
