The former light heavyweight Champion shed some light on the training routines in their gym and how they’ve helped Pereira amplify his game. Glover explained that with his elite grappling and superior wrestling, he has helped Pereira train in the same. Glover stated:
“We’ve become good friends and good training partners, you know? I help him out with the wrestling and the jiu-jitsu, and he help everybody out with the striking. I think with Alex’s mentality right now, It’s not about the place, it’s about the training. That guy has one mindset, and that is to be the best in the world.”
Relationship Between Alex Pereira and Glover Teixeira
Texeira has helped Pereira in defensive and offensive wrestling along with the essentials of Jiu-Jitsu. Alex Pereira, who was a World Champion Kickboxer, had to add a whole new element to his game, which is essential in MMA. The ground game of glover is renowned through the MMA community, which leads to none of his opponents wanting to engage in a ground battle with him.
Pereira, in turn, brings a whole new level of striking to his gym, considering he’s a former two-division World Kickboxing Champion in GLORY, the biggest kickboxing organization in the world. The two are on friendly terms. Both Glover and Alex Pereira are from Brazil and they certainly have the same goal, which is to be the next UFC champion in their respective division.
Texeira brings a lot of experience to the table as he’s the second oldest champion in UFC history after Randy Couture. The Brazilian found a second wind in his career as he went on a title run in his 40s and successfully claimed UFC gold. Called ‘Old Man Glover’ as a term of endearment by the fans, Glover Texeira can provide a lot of insight, along with the skills required for Pereira to claim gold.
Leading up to the event, Pereira has been seen training and hanging out with Glover, who keeps maintaining high spirits in their gym. Pereira is all set to fight this weekend, and Texeira will be their in his corner to guide and support his fighter in pursuit of UFC gold.
