UFC 284 promises to be one of the most electric fight cards of 2023, taking place this weekend on Feb 12. Similar to most combat sports, the UFC also has a tradition of crowd-stirring walk-outs. Thus, the fighters have to make an important decision before each fight, about their walkout song. As such, the songs are meant to get the crowd and the fighters hyped up and ready for the fight.
With UFC 284, the promotion is making its return to Australia, at the RAC Arena in Perth. Notably, UFC 284’s main highlight is the title bout between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski in the main event. Following his victory over Charles Oliveira at UFC 280, Makhachev will make his first title defense against featherweight champ, Volkanovski.

As for Volkanovski, he is fresh off a trilogy win against Max Holloway, effectively closing out the series. Now, he is hunting the champ-champ status, taking on Makhachev for the lightweight title. In the meantime, #2 and #5 ranked featherweight contenders Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett will go head-to-head for the interim featherweight title.
Islam Makhachev’s UFC 284 walkout song
Previously, Islam Makhachev took on Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 for the vacant lightweight title. On the night, he capped off a dominant performance with a submission in Round 2. As such, he will now be fighting in enemy territory, to defend his lightweight title and also look to take the #1 P4P spot. Expect an electrifying walkout from him this time as well.
For the most part, Islam usually uses the same song for his walkout every time he makes the walk to the Octagon. Previously, Makhachev has walked out to Lezginka, a popular Russian dance song with a clear melody and a fast rhythm.
Other than that, he also used Ghaltana, an extremely popular Arabic song by Saad Lamjarred at UFC 242 against Davi Ramos. Moreover, he has also used the iconic ‘Intro’ song by DMX for his fight against Gleison Tibau at UFC 220.
Alexander Volkanovski’s UFC 284 walkout song
As fans know, Volkanovski is a big fan of the famous TV show “Game of Thrones”. As such, Alexander “The Great” previously used a violin cover of the “Game of Thrones” theme song by Jason Yang and Roger Lima for his walkouts. Notably, Volk used the song for his fights against Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes, and more.
However, since becoming the featherweight champion, Volkanovski has started using a different walkout song. As such, Volkanovski now uses a song called “Down Under” as his walkout song. The song is by a famous Aussie band “Men at Work.” So fans will certainly give him a thunderous ovation. Volkanovski has been using the song since his fight with Max Holloway at UFC 251. Volk used the same song for his most recent fight against him at UFC 276 as well.
Yair Rodriguez’s walkout song
Yair Rodriguez previously walked out to “Humilde por Herencia” by Jovany Cadena for his fight against Jeremy Stephens on 22 Sep 2019. However, the fight ended as a no-contest due to an accidental eye poke. In the rematch a month later, “El Pantera” walked out to “El Invencible” by Los Rieleros Del Norte.
With a win against Stephens, Yair took on Max Holloway in 2021. On the night, the Mexican walked out to “El Corrido de Chihuahua” by Los Rieleros del Norte. Despite a heroic effort, Yair fell short and lost the bout via unanimous decision. However, he would go on to make his return against Brian Ortega in 2022, walking out to the same song once again.
Josh Emmett’s walkout song
As for Josh Emmett, the stoic featherweight contender took on Shane Burgos in 2020. On the night, he walked out to a mix of “Pain,” “Refuse 2 Lose,” and ”Sky Is The Limit” by Pusha T, Brotha Lynch Hung, and Rebelution, respectively.
Then, for his fight against Dan Ige and Calvin Kattar, Emmet once again walked out to “Sky’s the Limit” by Rebelution. As such, it appears that Emmett has found his song, which has been consistent with his best-ever run of form in the UFC. Thus, we can expect Josh to walk out to the same song once again at UFC 284 as well.
