UFC fighter Bobby Green has expressed his wish to legally change his name to ‘King’ multiple times in the past. Has he finally completed the necessary procedure to change his name?
Green, born on September 9, 1986, in San Bernardino, California, United States, was nicknamed ‘King’ early in his career. He has fought in three different divisions including Welterweight, Lightweight, and Super Lightweight. After making his professional debut in 2008, he has gone on to fight over 45 times in his career.
After 24 fights and a 19-5 record to his name, Green finally got his UFC debut. He earned a triumphant debut against Jacob Volkamann at UFC 156 in February 2013.
Although he has never held a UFC title, he is proud of his career path. Green is loved by the fans as well because of his personality. However, his outrageous wish of changing his name to King was not understood by many.
Before his fight against Jared Gordon at UFC Fight Night: Pavlovich vs. Blaydes in April 2023, Green admitted that he would go ahead with the process of changing his name.
In an interview with MMA Underground, he said, “I’ve been telling everybody that I was retiring after this fight, and what I meant was, I was retiring as Bobby Green. I’m going to be changing my name, and I will no longer be Bobby Green. I’m changing my name to just King. No last name. Just one name. And so this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me.”
In a number of interviews, he claimed the same. However, as of October 2023, Bobby Green has not legally changed his name. His social media profiles still consist of the name ‘Bobby Green’ and so does his UFC profile.
Bobby Green could not change his name to King because of outstanding debts
In the same interview with MMA Underground, Green explained that he had been paying for child support for so many years and that caused a hindrance to his name change procedure.
“I was fighting so many cases with my baby mommas, child support, and s*** like that… I think I spent like $1,000 or maybe $1,200 to change my name. They were like, ‘Hey, no, you can’t do that bro, because you’ve got another case, and you’ve got another case,’ and everything, and they didn’t give me money back either.
“They just took my money, so I was like, ‘F***.’ I just thought about it for years, and now here it is again, where now I’ve gotten cool with the women in my life and we’re all good, and so I’m just going to [change it]. Now I can do what I want to do and take care of these things.”
Green has three children — two sons and one daughter. According to reports, he once said that all three of his children are of different ethnicities. However, not much is known about their mothers.
Bobby Green was ready to fight LeBron James as “there can only be one king”
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has also been nicknamed ‘King’ for years. In an interview with TMZ in October 2023, Green said, “There can only be one king. Let’s go find out. The other one’s gonna get his head cut off!…

If LeBron wanted to fight with me, it wouldn’t be close… He’s a big dude, but he doesn’t have the skills I’m sorry. Skills pay the bills, sir… In a heartbeat, without even thinking about it. Hell yeah. I’ll wax his a*s!”
Although it does not seem like Green has changed his name to King yet, it will not be surprising if he does so in the very near future.
