Two veteran fighters, Eddie Wineland and Cody Stamann will cross paths inside the Octagon on July 18th. The bantamweight bout will take place in the prelims of the event which will take place in Texas.
Eddie Wineland is on a 2 fight-losing skid. He fought Sean O’Malley in 2020 at UFC 250, on the back of a win over Grigory Popov. O’Malley knocked him out in a brutal manner in the very first round of their bout. Wineland suffered another setback at the hands of John Castañeda in February of 2021.

Once a ranked fighter, Cody Stamann’s last UFC win came at UFC 250, against Brian Kelleher in 2020. Since then he was lost 3 consecutive fights against Jimmie Rivera, Merab Dvalishvili and Said Nurmagomedov. However, both Nurmagomedov and Dvalishvili are seemingly on the course to the very top of the division. Hence, there is no shame in losing to them.

Can Cody Stamann bounce back against Eddie Wineland?
Cody Stamann had a decent start to his UFC career as he won all three of his initial bouts in the company. But he never successfully took the next step in his career as he always came up short against fighters who are ranked higher.
Stamann is a gifted grappler and he wrestled in NCAA Division II. He also holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Cody has 6 wins via knockout and 3 via submission. He averages 2.78 takedowns per fight and boasts a takedown defence of 75%. Cody is a decent striker as well. He lands 4.02 strikes per minute with a defence rate of 63%.
Eddie Wineland has had a decorated career so far. He was the WEC Bantamweight Champion in 2006. He also fought for the interim UFC 135lbs belt in 2013 against Renan Barão at UFC 165. But Eddie is well past his glory days and is at the fag end of his career.
The 37-year-old has suffered knockout losses in both of his last fights. Hence he will need to resort to wrestling against a powerful striker such as Cody Stamann. However, grappling has never been Eddie’s strong suit. He is a dominant striker who lands 3.40 strikes per minute. But at the same time, he also absorbs 3.66 strikes per minute as well.
Hence it is Cody Stamann’s fight to lose. Fans can expect an early finish from Cody either via KO/TKO or a submission. The 32-year-old will be the smart pick to win this contest.
