Khabib Nurmagomedov couldn’t hold back his tears after his win over Gaethje. The Eagle fell to his feet, as he touched the ground, remembering his late father on the historic night at UFC 254.
“A huge thankyou to all. To my fans, If I say my fans in Russia, that would be wrong. Let’s say all my Russian speaking fans. A huge thankyou to you all. When I started in 2008, and when I signed with UFC in 2012, many people didn’t believe. They thought it was impossible. I am a simple guy from a Dagestani mountain village. When I came here, my brother told me, ‘Google says you are the planet’s most discussed person.’ I couldn’t believe it because I couldn’t even think of that. I just wanted to become champion with the guidance of my father.” Khabib said addressing his Russian-speaking fans in the post-fight interview.

It’s not always that a mixed martial artist finishes string inside the Octagon. Additionally, it wasn’t just about winning fights, Khabib Nurmagomedov remained untouched throughout his entire career, having lost only two rounds in the judges’ scorecard in his entire career. Khabib is yet to vacate the lightweight gold, and his retirement has not been made official by the UFC.
