The flyweight division is often considered one of the most underrated and explosive weight classes in the promotion. With a pool of diverse talents, the flyweight title is always up for grabs and has seen a lot of holders lately. Among these would be the American professional mixed martial artist Brandon Royval, who was on a three-fight win streak before losing to Alexandre Pantoja for the title at UFC 296.
Brandon is one of the most entertaining prospects currently in the flyweight division, winning the Fight of the Night bonus three times and the Performance of the Night bonus once in only eight UFC fights. He was also the Legacy Fighting Alliance Flyweight Champion before stepping into the UFC. Royval is widely respected by his fans for his performances and his humble attitude toward his opponents.

Royval has had one of the most inspiring journeys in the UFC. The mixed martial artist was working a full-time job in the juvenile justice system as well as as a jiu-jitsu instructor at Factory X to make ends meet even after being signed by the promotion. He later quit those roles after the win against Kai Kara-France at UFC 253.
The meaning behind Brandon Royval’s sleeve and tribal tattoos
Brandon Royval has a set of tattoos that he flaunts during his UFC weigh-ins and on his social media. Fans are often curious about the significance of the artwork on his body and what it means to the UFC fighter. Royval has a visible tribal tattoo on his right lower arm, which might indicate a warrior attitude, which the flyweight relates to.
It is a skull with a tribal hat, which is often considered to have a connection to one’s heritage or ancestry. Rovyal hasn’t officially commented on his heritage and ancestry, but many believe him to be Hispanic based on his accent and skill tone.
Brandon Royval’s fascination for tattoos and Zen philosophy
Brandon Rovyal’s second tattoo is a much more detailed left arm full sleeve. These contain depictions of Buddha and Buddhist monasteries. Rovyal seems to be a believer in Buddhism and a higher power and is seen captioning the tattoo with Zen, which is a known Buddhist philosophy. Zen refers to the practice of meditation, insights, and discipline and indicates a state of meditative calm.

However, he has not revealed the meaning behind the tattoos. He seems to be in love with body art, and he might add a few more to his collection. The #3-ranked Brandon Rovyal will take on former champion Brandon Moreno at the Arena CDMX, in Mexico City, at UFC Mexico this weekend.
This won’t be the first time he will be coming face-to-face with the Mexican fighter. The duo shared the cage back in November 2020 at UFC 255, a fight Moreno won in the first round via TKO after Rovyal suffered an injury during the fight.
