Islam Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion. He is gearing up for a mega-fight against P4P #1 Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. Islam himself is ranked #2 in the UFC’s P4P rankings. However, above everything else, Islam Makhachev is a family man.
Although Makhachev is a married man, he has closely guarded the identity of his spouse. It is believed that Makhachev got married in 2021 at Makhachkala in Dagestan. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tughukov were the only UFC fighters in attendance during the ceremony. Not much else is known about the lightweight champion’s wife.
After Islam’s decimation of Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira in Abu Dhabi, Islam gave an interview that provided some insight into his personal life and family. The Dagestani fighter told Megan Olivi that he could not wait to go back home and see his newborn daughter. Islam said, “I’ve been thinking about my daughter. I just want to come home, hug my mother, father because they are waiting.”
This was the first confirmation of Islam having children. Despite being quite active on social media, Islam barely posts anything regarding his personal life. And the content he posts is mostly limited to his close ones in the sport of mixed martial arts.
Islam Makhachev: Family, siblings, and his relationship with Khabib Nurmagomedov
There is not much known about Islam Makhachev’s early childhood and his family. The identities of his parents remain unknown. In fact, no one even knows whether Makhachev has any siblings. However, after his title victory over Charles Oliveira, fans were granted a peek into Makhachev’s personal life for the very first time.
In a video, Islam Makhachev was seen carrying his UFC title in an airport as some media members surrounded him. Then one journalist asked Islam to call his dad over so they could interview him. The lightweight champion did so and as his dad approached him, he promptly placed the title on his shoulder. It was quite a sweet moment between the champion and his father.
One man Islam Makhachev has been associated with time and again is former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Many fans have a misconception that Khabib and Makhachev are related. In spite of how close they are, Khabib and Islam are not biologically related to each other.
The Eagle, and the current lightweight champion, Makhachev, both grew up in the Russian Republic of Dagestan. The pair attended Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s gym where they honed their combat skills. Islam has admitted on many occasions that Khabib was always like an elder brother to him growing up. And despite not being related to each other, they share a bond that almost makes it seem as if they are.
