Renowned UFC commentator Joe Rogan has become one of the most influential figures of our time. The 55-year-old has shone a light upon several subjects on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Aside from politics, conspiracy theories, and MMA bouts, one thing that Rogan has seemingly obsessed over is his infamous carnivore diet.
He is one of the most famous adopters of the carnivore diet, which has led him to provide a platform to other carnivore dieters as well. The list includes Dr. Paul Saladino, Dr. Shawn Baker, Jordan Peterson, and more. Inspired by the above-mentioned guests, Joe has played with several variations of the diet while sharing the experiences with millions of his Instagram followers.
The strict meat-only diet created a lot of buzz in 2018 when psychologist Jordan Peterson revealed that he and his daughter live only on steak, water, and an occasional glass of bourbon. He also stated that the duo has noticed positive health results as a consequence.
When did Joe Rogan start following the carnivore diet?
The former Taekwondo champion first announced his one-month meat-only diet in January 2020. Since then, Joe has promoted a diet centered around red meat and has famously cycled on and off a carnivore diet. Many regard January as world carnivore month, thus Joe embarked on the diet in 2020, followed by another month in 2021.
Joe has often shared pictures of his meals during the month on his Instagram. The posts include seared slices of elk meat that the 55-year-old has hunted himself. He also mentioned his love for ribeye steaks as breakfast for the month.

In January 2021, Joe made a post saying, “January is world carnivore diet month. I did it last year, lost 12 pounds, and really felt great (other than having ruthlessly explosive diarrhea for the first couple weeks), so I’m gonna give it a go again this year.”
The diet usually includes meat and water. However, in January 2022, Joe added a spin to shake things up a little bit. He made a minor adjustment by adding fruit to the meat-only diet. In an Instagram post, the comedian said, “January is world carnivore month,” he wrote in the caption. “This time I’m adding fruit to this diet. Just meat and fruit for the whole month.”
What does Rogan consume during the carnivore diet?
Rogan has tried the infamous diet for at least 3 years in a row, while presumably angering vegans and giving health experts a heart attack in the process. The 55-year-old famously cut off vegetables and bread. He only consumed meat, fruit, and water for 31 days.
The Texas resident shared that he also took several vitamin supplements, amino acids, and fish oils. This was his way to cover all the nutritional bases by not consuming veggies. In terms of meat, Rogan prefers elk, which he prepares using the famous reverse-sear technique. Joe mentioned he adds bacon to his elk to obtain enough fat that the elk lacks.

Apart from this, he’s stated to have pig, deer, and moose in his freezer, all from wild game. Rogan has publicly added salmon to his carnivore diet because it is loaded with essential nutrients, fats, and proteins. Last but not least, Rogan drinks a lot of water. On an episode of his podcast, the 55-year-old revealed how he loves to add a pinch of pink Himalayan salt and lemon to his water.
Joe shares his experience with the infamous diet
Renowned American neuroscientist, Andrew Huberman guested The Joe Rogan Experience recently. The duo discussed various diets and their consequences on the human body. During a particular segment, Rogan touched on his past experience with the carnivore diet.
The comedian said, “What helps people, particularly with things like the carnivore diet, what helps them is with satiety. There’s something about carbohydrates, they’re so good you want to keep eating ’em.”
Rogan continued, “If I have a steak by itself, I eat the steak and I’m good. I judge things obviously on science but also on how I feel after I eat them. When I eat pasta I feel like I ate a brick.”
“The problem that I had with pure carnivore [diet] was that I workout very hard. And when I workout on pure carnivore, I was struggling, I didn’t like it. When I added fruit though, I didn’t have the same problem that you had. That’s like most of my diet, 90% of my diet is just meat and fruit,” concluded Joe.
